THE TRIGGER WARNING

This is my first blog post. I’ve titled my blog THE TRIGGER WARNING, but honestly a better title would be: 750 Words In The Morning.

This will be the first 750 words that come to me as I brew my coffee, and get ready for the day. I think I’m posting under the category of Writing, but I’m not sure. One of the reasons that I have resigned myself to writing with pen and paper is because my computer skills are severely limited. The main reason I’ve never bothered transcribing or rewriting any stories on computer, was my feeling that, given the controversial and subversive nature of my work, I would never get past any of the “gate keepers” in the publishing industry. But with Amazon and self publishing, all of that has changed; so here I am, fumbling, stumbling, – testing the limits of my patience with this old laptop, and hopefully finding an audience.

Who am I writing for?

There are two groups of readers I wish to reach; one small and the other, (hopefully) large. My good friend Buddy Tripp has encouraged me to “write to market” in an easily identifiable genre, –  so one group of readers I would like to connect with are Science Fiction fans, particularly those that enjoy The Chosen One/Galactic Battleship genre. … if there is such a thing.

The other, much smaller group that I write for are those seekers of truth and knowledge that have knocked on my door, and asked to hear about my experiences with Self Cultivation, Meditation, Martial Arts and The Esoteric Traditions. For these rare and intrepid individuals, (of which, there have been three) I am chronologically stringing together an account of all the “epiphenomenal experiences” that I have had in my life. These are in the form of short stories and memoirs. The memoirs will be written in First Person, – of course.

The short stories are written Third Person Omniscient, in the form of Roman e Clef. All  the stories are true, but even with the magic of memory, I  can’t really know what another person was thinking or feeling; and so, if I want to be honest I have to delve into fiction in order to remain truthful. And if there is one thing I know, it is that being truthful is of utmost importance.

I have notebooks filled with first and second drafts of these “strange and wonderful” stories. Some of them I have told in barrooms, coffee shops, and comedy open mics. Others have been told to friends and colleges on long car rides, and the consensus has been, – “you should write this stuff down”.

So I am.

This blog will be all about me waking up in the morning, and hashing things out on the keyboard. It will no doubt include reports on the previous night’s dreams, both Lucid and Vertical, as well as common every day “Purging Dreams” … the funny ones. I’ll probably vent about politics and current events, and you might even get a recipe or two out this, – if you’re lucky!

I’ll try to keep it positive, but I make no promises. I have more than a few pet peeves: Political Correctness ( that’s  Critical Theory to you and me), Deconstructionism, The New Age Malapropism of St. John’s The Dark Night, Pop Culture, Globalism, and Hipsters … just to name a few.

I might write in English Prime, but not today.

I will be paying homage to Herb Caen … and there will be lists:

The Last Four Books I’ve Read

  1. I Swear I’ll Make It Up To You: A Life on The Low Road; by Mishka Shubaly
  2. Technocracy Rising: The Trojan Horse Of Global Transformation; by Patrick M. Wood
  3. For A New Liberty; by Murray N. Rothbard
  4. Political Ponerology: A Science on The Nature of Evil Adjusted for Political Purposes; by Andrew M. Lobaczewski

Mostly this is going to be about the writing process, – MY writing process. But there will be Bachelor Living Tips, Las Vegas Restaurant Reviews, and the occasional Comedy or Music Review …

I’m going to try to keep my daily regimen of diet and exercise out of this, but let’s be serious, – diet, exercise, and meditation are really important; especially if you work a full time day job, and write on your “off hours”.

This blog will be sometimes more, and sometimes less than 750 words, but it will almost certainly be written in the morning …

I don’t know why you would be reading this, but if you are – HAVE A NICE DAY !

    1. What is going on in the back of my mind when I write?

In the back of my mind I’m hoping I don’t hit the wrong button on my laptop, and lose what I’ve written.

Other than that, – I’m writing a for a close friend, an estranged friend, and to prove to myself that the stories I tell myself in my head are as good as I think they are; … or to see if the concepts and principals I hold dear actually hold water, once they see the light of day.

  1. I love Science Fiction, it is my favorite genre. I also like to write but in Spanish (where it is pretty difficult to enter seriously to the publishing industry) so I know exactly what you’re talking about. By the way, nice writing style! 🙂

    1. Thank you for the encouraging words.

I love the Magical Realism of the South American writers, – I wish I spoke Spanish.
Maybe one day I will learn to read it, (with a dictionary)…

Have you ever translated your writing into English?

      1. Not really but I have some stories written in English (not translated). I write in both languages (English and Spanish) but the stories I write in English can be found just in English, the same with the Spanish ones.

I love Magical Realism as well! You should learn to read in Spanish so you can read Gabriel García Márquez, one of my favorite authors of all time.
